Named
after Henry T. Oxnard, owner of the American Beet Sugar Co and located about
an hour and a half north of Los Angeles, Oxnard is tucked against the
Pacific Ocean is a city often referred to as the "Strawberry Coast" due at
least in part to its incredible acreage planted in the tasty morsels.
The Chumash Indians were the first residents of the Oxnard area; in the mid
1500's, Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriquez dubbed the area "the land of
everlasting summers" and claimed the land for King Charles I of Spain.

the Coast in Oxnard
Oxnard is: "at the western edge of the fertile Oxnard Plain, and is one
of the world's most important agricultural centers, with its distinction
as the strawberry and lima bean capital." There is even a Strawberry
Triathlon in March and California Strawberry Festival in May to
celebrate the delectable treat.

Believe me when I tell you that everything about Tierra Sur, from the
appetizers to the the fine wines from the cellars of Herzog, is top

Agriculture has long been the major industry, but the
establishment of military bases at Port Hueneme and Point Mugu during World
War II, and the rise of electronic, aerospace, and other manufacturing
industries have contributed to the growth of the city and surrounding areas.
More recently, tourism has been added to the list of industries, along with
opportunities galore for sport fishing and boating. Whatever the
reason, Oxnard should be high on your list of places to visit, work or live!
