At a distance of only about 12 miles to the east of
Carmel-by-the-Sea – by following the winding Carmel River Road, it takes
less than a half hour to get there – lies the little town of Carmel Valley,
California. Along the way is Earthbound Farms, a grower of great organic
vegetables (they are distributed as far away as the Midwest), as well as a
great place to stay and to golf called Quail Lodge. Farther inland,
additional lodging may be found, as well as a winery or two and some horse
farms and a great place to go hiking (4462 acres!) called Garland Ranch
Regional Park.
The town of Carmel Valley is fairly small but tightly packed with little
shops, many great places to enjoy lunch and/or dinner, and several
wine
tasting rooms. Every place we stopped, we noticed one very impressive
aspect: the people were extremely friendly. If you like to try new places
that are only slightly off the “beaten path,” make sure to take the short
trip inland to Carmel Valley. You will find it well worth your time.

Carmel Valley Wine Tasting
It was a perfect day to embark on a little excursion, so
we headed east, along Carmel Valley Road, toward the village of Carmel
Valley. Our chosen destinations were three wine tasting rooms there:
Bernardus, Heller and Joullian. |
